I don't think I have posted on this board before, but I have read some of the posts and think some of you might be able to help me alittle. I am reading Wealth and Poverty of Nations, and I was just wondering if anyone else has read it and have an opinion about it. This is for a class in college and I just find it interesting. So if you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them.

    welcome welcome you....

40 lashes for not posting here before
(though i can't seem to think of why!)

anyways... i have not read that book before...
but i am familiar with alot of that idealism.

its interesting to discover a great chain of
events that cause progression in the social
    context....

    what do you find interesting?
does certain information in this book make you
    feel guilty/uncomfortable about living in
    america?

As bad as it may seem, I don't feel guilt or shame being an American. I just think that as a country we are so young and niave. I think as a whole we want what is best for other countries, of course as long as it isnt a threat to us in anyway. But as far as I can see that isnt a bad thing really.
But yeah I think for example, trying to promote democracy in other countries in theory is a good idea, but I don't think enough attention is going to that fact that our country was founded on that idea. Most countries aren't and there is already alot of hate between majority/minorities(far more extreme an than anything we have seen) and democracy only empowers that hate to have control. In order to get into office, they will actually campaign weeding out races in countries....that can't be good.
But as far as having more money and having a great life....I guess I am just spoiled, I wouldn't trade living in this country for anything. Granted my family is well into the middle class, and we dont have what would be considered alot of money for America, we still have a great life.
I just think as far as foreign affairs go, we need to be more aware of the situations already exsisting before getting involved, and think long and hard as to whether or not we can help at all.

i agree to somewhat what you said:

we need to know what democracy is prior to going
out and selling it. (but then again, we aren't
    reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally selling democracy... not as
much as we are trying to establish capitalism)
